Nonverbal persons, with or
without autism, need everyone’s help now.
First of all, I am a strong
believer in listening to self-advocates, such as my 44 year-old son Ben, a
person with nonverbal autism, who FCed with me as the facilitator, around noon,
Wednesday, May 18, 2016:
“You have much
to do to help nonverbal persons, with or without autism.
With Divine
help, you can make a major contribution in this critical area.
You should
push everyone to help, without exception.
You should
follow your thoughts without hesitation.
Please get to
work now.”
Of course, my
son Ben cannot represent the views of all self-advocates, so I would like to
get the opinion of other self-advocates.
One critical
area where I believe help is needed is that nonverbal persons must be
protected from abuse.
As I posted yesterday as a
comment to a private Facebook group;
“I am very concerned that probably about 99% of nonverbal persons, with
or without autism, do not have an effective means of communication and need to
be protected from horrendous amounts of serious abuse. The sensationalism of
extremely rare cases of abuse involving FC [Facilitated Communication] (while
there actually are more important primary causes of any such rare abuse) seems
to cause almost everyone to overlook the much more serious tragedies of
numerous serious abuse of nonverbal persons who have no effective means of
communication or any alternative protection.
At this point, while I am thinking about how to proceed, I ask everyone
that if you are interested in joining me in this effort, please email me at golden.arthur@gmail.com
